How I’m getting organised for 2020.

2019 has been a huge year of personal growth and development for me. I invested in myself in more ways than ever before. I started working with a coach on delivering powerful presentations. Attended numerous business and personal development events. I conquered my fears. Started a podcast. Optimised my routine and schedule. Read one personal development book per month. Listened to at least 3 podcasts per week. I made some tough decisions. I stood my ground. And most importantly, I realised the true power that lives inside of me.
What a year it has been.
As we approach 2020, I recognise the significance of not just a new year, but the beginning of a new decade. I want 2020 to be the biggest and best year yet. To continue to strive to realise my dreams, and to make the most of every opportunity that is presented to me. I want to start the new year with more conviction, intention and power than ever before. To embrace the freshness that comes with the new year, and new decade, whilst still taking a moment to recognise how far I have come. I want to continue practicing gratitude, and to be more present in each waking moment.
In light of the new decade, I wanted to take some time to share how I will be getting organised for 2020.
1. A QUIET MOMENT OF REFLECTION
I’m not one to dwell on the past, however I certainly recognise the value of taking some time out for quiet reflection. Prior to the year coming to a close, I plan on scheduling some alone time to reflect on the year that was. What were some of my greatest achievements? What went well? Key lessons and learnings? What were some of my biggest challenges? What can I do better?
Taking some time to reflect helps me to put things into perspective and plan for the future.
2. REVISITING MY 5 YEAR PLAN
At the beginning of 2018, I wrote a detailed 5 year plan for a remarkable like, and exactly where I would see myself by the time 2022 came around. You can read more about the process that I undertook in my blog post here.
I have never been fond on the idea of New Years resolutions, as from personal experience they tend to be short-lived. I am now driven by my 5 year plan, with some smaller goals that I set for each year. For example, this year my goal was to practice meditation on a daily basis, and this is something I implemented into my morning routine.
Taking time to reflect on my 5 year plan reminds me of the things that I most want out of life, and the things that I’m working towards. It also inspires me to continue to work towards my goals and my dreams.
3. OPTIMISING MY MORNING ROUTINE
My morning routine has been without a doubt, one of the single most impactful practices I’ve put in place. My most productive days are when I rise early, take some time to meditate, workout at the gym and work on myself – before I go to work for someone else.
Whilst my morning routine is something which is consistent and works well for me, there is always opportunity for improvement. For example, can I increase my morning meditation from 10 minutes to 15 minutes each day? What change will I need to make for that to happen i.e. can I set my alarm 5 minutes earlier each day?

4. ORGANISING MY HOME & LIFE
Being organised at home and in my life is incredibly important to me. There is something so gratifying about knowing that everything has it’s place, and that everything is in order. Whilst my home is highly organised, there is always opportunity to declutter and get rid of paperwork, clothes or other items that are no longer required or serve their purpose. Prior to the start of 2020 I plan on spending some time to declutter and ensure I start the new year knowing that everything is organised.
I have also purchased a 2020 diary, and utilise my iPhone and Outlook calendars to schedule in important dates and meetings.

5. MAKING TIME FOR THE THINGS THAT MATTER
One of the most valuable commodities we have is time, and I plan on using mine with intention and purpose. Prior to the start of the new year, I plan on reviewing my schedule and prioritising the things that matter. These include:
- Morning meditation.
- Working out 6 x times per week.
- Making time for family and close friends.
- Personal development – looking at what courses and events are happening in 2020, and scheduling them in to avoid disappointment. One of the things I am currently looking at attending is Tony Robbins Date with Destiny.
- Scheduling in time to destress and decompress on a weekly basis.
By being proactive with my schedule, it means I can ensure I make time for the things that matter the most.
