5 Habits of Highly Effective People.
Have you ever gotten yourself into a slump or developed some really lazy habits? Have you tried to get yourself into a good morning routine, but just can’t commit to getting yourself up that little bit earlier each morning?
If you answered yes to any of these questions, you are not alone.
I have to admit, I started developing some pretty bad habits towards the end of last year. I was going to bed really late, snoozing my alarm multiple times and missed my gym session more often than not. By the time I made it home, I was so exhausted that all I wanted to was to sit down on the coach, eat some food and watch some mindless Reality TV show.
One of the promises I made to myself at the start of the New Year was that I would need to snap out of these bad habits, and start to increase my level of effectiveness. Inspired by Joe Duncan’s Blog Before 5am, I made a conscious decision to start maximising my level of effectiveness each day by:
1. RISING EARLY
Before 5am encourages individuals to set their alarms to 4:45am, so they are up and ready to start their day at 5am! Between 5am and 8am is when you develop your own self, work on your body, read, invest in yourself, work on your personal projects and come up with your own ideas. I have to admit, trying to wake up at 4:45am is no easy task when you are not an early riser, but the trick is to gradually set your alarm for earlier each day, until you commit to the 4:45am wake up call. Going to sleep earlier is an essential ingredient in being able to rise early.
2. PLANNING YOUR DAY
Planning your day in advance helps you to maximise your level of effectiveness. Between 5am and 8am, I work on my blog, invest some time researching and developing new projects, and work out at the gym. This means I have invested in my myself, my mind and my body, before I get to the office and give all my energy to other people.
3. UTILISE TIME EFFECTIVELY
I schedule in meetings and block out certain times in the day to work on certain tasks. If I have a really challenging task to work on, I will try and nut it out first thing in the morning, while I am still feeling focused and fresh.
4. EFFICIENCY VS EFFECTIVENESS
Efficiency is the time it takes do to something, and having tasks completed in the least amount of time. Effectiveness refers to the quality of work produced, and how well a certain task has been completed. Focus on being effective in your work, and ensuring that tasks are 100% closed out. Are you a task master and power through your to-do list without ensuring it has been completed to the standard required? Learn how to balance a level of efficiency and effectiveness in your work.
5. JUST DO IT!
Stop wasting time, sitting around and wasting precious hours of your day on social media. Quit making excuses and take action! Do something today that will bring your closer to your dreams, and that your future self will thank you for!
